“When [Caroline Kennedy] worked as a copy girl at The Daily News in 1977 she once drove the columnist Jimmy Breslin to the 109th Precinct station house in Queens on a story. The cops and their commanders froze in awe. She was bigger than Mr. Breslin. Bigger than the story he was sent to cover. And, if any proof of her pragmatism or grit was needed, consider the first thing she did when she got back to the office: She filed an overtime claim. To which an editor remarked, ‘She’s Joseph P. Kennedy’s granddaughter — don’t worry about her.’”
